Since meditation is such an age old activity practiced by different religions and cultures, there has been a huge range of different meditation techniques developed and amassed over the years. To date, many books and articles have been written on this topic.

There is no one way to meditate. In fact, there are hundreds of different schools and ways of meditation. The meditation groups offered at CPE are geared towards the effort to bring meditation and the benefits of such practice to our busy lives. One does not need to take a retreat or to go into silence at a monastery for months, but instead can bring this practice and its benefits into your life in simple doable ways.

Open Monitoring Meditation

This method of meditation provides space for the individual to sit quietly and simply observe whatever thoughts are passing through their mind during the meditation time and let go of any judgments or attachments to the thoughts coming and going. This practice encourages a lack of reaction to thoughts and stimuli which, over time, builds the ability to have more control over reactions outside of your meditation practice.

Creative Meditation or Visualization

A different type of meditation technique, this form of meditation will enable you to consciously cultivate as well as strengthen different qualities of your mind. It focuses on strengthening qualities, such as appreciation, joy, compassion, patience, empathy, love, gratitude, compassion, humility, fearlessness, and tenderness, among others.

Focused Attention Meditation

In this type of meditation, the mind seeks to focus on a single object, thought, word, or even simply the breaths that are taken. The goal is to clear out everything from the mind that is not a part of this focus. Sometimes the objects of focus have meaning, while other times words are repeated over and over (such as “om”), and have no meaning other than being a mystic syllable to focus on.

Shamanic Journey Meditation

This is an experiential meditation technique that is an internal practice to connect with your soul, higher wisdom, angels, God (Also known by many other names: Great Spirit, The Universe, Jesus, Love, Allah, The Great Beyond, Nothingness, The Divine or by whatever name, label or feeling one attributes to this larger “thing”). Shamanic Journey Meditation is based in ancient wisdom and practice which has been discovered as the first methods that ancient man used in their attempts to connect with the larger energy; The Divine, Great Spirit, Gaia, Lord etc. It is a fairly simple technique and like any meditation it takes practice for it to flow and feel natural.

Guided Meditation

In this practice individuals are guided by the facilitator through suggestions of images, directions, and invitations that bring them into a peaceful, calm place within them. This is a great practice for many individuals to start their inner exploration towards a personal relationship with God, Divine Wisdom, Source etc. and hearing inner guidance from that Divine/Higher Source. It is also deeply relaxing and can bring emotional relief and help to dissipate the effects of stress that we encounter daily in our contemporary lives. This is a great meditation for those new to meditation and for those who are experienced in meditation. It requires no prior skills or knowledge in regards to meditation technique or information.

Chakra Meditation

Chakra meditation is a meditation that focuses on your energy and the seven energy centers in the body. It is grounding and brings a sense of lightness, clearing, and relaxation. It is a method that connects you deeply to your body, soul and to The Divine (God, Jesus, Allah, The Universe, Great Spirit etc.) The meditation includes guided imagery and crystal chakra sounding bowls.

Healing Meditation

This is a guided meditation that focuses on inspiring healing in your body and bringing feelings of wellness into your thoughts and consciousness. It is calming, relaxing and beneficial for those challengedby chronic pain and other physical and health issues.

Stress Relief & Relaxation Meditation

Stress relief meditation offers many benefits and in this class relaxation and relief from the stress of every day is the focus. Through guided meditation individuals are guided through a series of relaxations steps that lets all the muscles in the body release and let go and provides a sense of calm and deep peace.
